Crisis in Ukraine

epa04371954 A relative (C) of a Ukrainian soldier is helped as she faints during a protest rally in front of the Ukrainian defense ministry building in Kiev, 28 August 2014. Relatives of Ukrainian soldiers surrounded by pro-Russian separatists in eastern Ukraine were holding a rally to demand stronger support for the forces. Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko on 28 August accused Russia of a military invasion and cancelled an official visit to Turkey over ‘the sharp aggravation of the situation in Donetsk.’ Pro-Russian separatists were reported advancing towards the southern town of Mariupol and that their tanks had reached the south-eastern city of Novoazovsk, more than 100 kilometres south of Donetsk, near the Russian border, where the government in Kiev said they were opening a ‘second front’ in the conflict.
